Environment means the surrounding around us. Surrounding means the places where we are living like our village, town, city, country, sea, ocean, forest, river etc. Pollution means the abnormal conditions of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and the Earth mixed with unwanted things. Due to environmental pollution, the bio mass suffers from different kinds of diseases which causes death and destruction. So, we should have appropriate knowledge about our surrounding or the environment. According to which we can able to save our environment being polluted.
Causes of pollution- The consuming of wood as fuel for cooking purposes in rural areas emits smoke and fills the atmosphere with carbon dioxide. Using of coals, cow dung for these purposes also produces carbon dioxide and pollutes the atmosphere. Due to population explosion, there is a large increase of garbage in cities and towns. Decaying heap of garbage produces different types of poisonous gases which mix with the air and causes pollution. Nowadays, different types of vehicles like motor cycles, cars, buses, trucks are running in villages, towns and cities. They emit carbon dioxide and pollutes the atmosphere. Trains which are running by diesel cause heavy air pollution.
Testing of missiles and atomic bombs also causes both air and water pollution. This causes harm to both land and aquatic animals. The release of harmful gases from hotels and restaurants also pollutes the air. The release of harmful gases and toxic liquid from the factories and industries pollutes the air and water respectively. The rivers are being polluted by mixing with the toxic liquid release from factories and industries. That causes water pollution and harm to aquatic animals. Deforestation and burning of forest for making cultivation land creates pollution. Smoking and other human activities cause environmental pollution.
Solution of environmental pollution- To save lives, it is need to balance the oxygen level in the atmosphere and for this we have to encourage afforestation. Because the plants consume carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen for the life being. More and more plants should be planted on the road sides, river banks, bare lands etc. People should be conscious about social forestation and other schemes of Govt. In rural areas there should be provision and facilities of smokeless burner for the cooking purposes. For this, the ultimate source of energy like solar energy may be provided to the people. Public toilets should be made globally in rural and urban areas to avoid pollution. People should support the ban of deforestation and propagate among themselves not to cut the trees. Because plants and animals are correlated with each other in the environment.
There was a day when Sundarlal Bahuguna in India had started Chipko movement to save the trees and save the environment being polluted. Vehicles should run with CNG (compressed natural gas) and solar energy to save the environment being polluted. Use of non-biodegradable things like polythene and others should be banned. Garbage should not pile on public places rather it should dump in the dumping yard. Govt. should make laws to keep the environment clean. Factories and industries should recycle the toxic liquids before releasing into the water bodies. Dead bodies shouldn't be thrown in rivers and ocean. Using of pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers to grow more food should be minimized. Due to the environmental pollution, the lives are getting more difficulty. So, the United Nations Organization (U.N.O.) has special concern about it and for its directions each year the World Day is being celebrated on 5th June. The aim of the celebration of the day is to aware the people about the harmful effects of environmental pollution and encourage them to avoid pollution.
It is also the duty of our youth to avoid the pollution and keep the surrounding clean. We can aware the people about the importance of pollution free environment. Planting trees is very essential for the safety of the environment and for the living beings to survive. If youth will interfere in organizing different functions to aware the people about the importance of the environment where we are living, than we must success in preventing the environment being polluted.
