Spreading hog weed is found all over India in the rainy season. There are two types of spreading hog weed, one is white and other is red. Between them red spreading hog weed is found more and has medicinal values. The different parts of this herb like leaves,stem and flowers are of red color. When the fruits of it ripe, it dries from top of it. When rainy season comes, it germinates again, so, it is called spreading hog weed. This type of herb spreads very soon, it is 2-3 m long with tender branches, leaves longer by 1 inch from half, round or oval, mild hairy, placed in front of one another. The flowers are small, pink colored. The fruits are 1/2 inch long. In rainy season, both the flowers and fruits come.
Chemical constituents- Potassium nitrate, nitrate and chlorate are found in it.
Properties- It is a pain killing, cool, heart stimulating and urinating herb. It is used in heart diseases, dropsy, jaundice, strangury and kidney disorders. It has good effects on blood circulation and heart. It increases the number of red blood cells in our blood, increases the strength and stamina of the body. It destroys leprosy, fever and venom. Due to the presence of potassium nitrate, it increases the capability of heart to contract. It provides potassium to our body as well as being an urinating herb.
Sleeplessness- Take 50-100 ml decoction of spreading hog weed, it will make you sleep.
Eye diseases- Grind its root, mix ghee and use as kohl (kajal) in your eyes, it will cure the swelling of the eyes. For curing the redness of the eyes, use as kohl (kajal) by mixing honey to the grinded root.
Itching of the eyes- Rub its root with the juice of false daisy (bhringraj or bhangra) and use it on your eyes. It will give relief from the itching of the eyes.
Night blindness- Rub its root with water and use it on your eyes. It will cure the night blindness.
Stomatitis (mouth sores)- Grind its root with milk and apply it on the blisters. It will give relief from mouth sores.
Heart diseases- Eat its leaves in your meal. It is very beneficial in heart diseases.
Spitting blood- If the blood is coming in patient's spit repeatedly, take 5-10 g root of spreading hog weed and powder of saathi rice, cook with juice of sultana, milk and ghee, give it to the patient to drink.
Cough-Take powder of spreading hog weeds root, mix sugar with it, take the mixture two times daily for dry cough.
Asthma- Mix 500 mg turmeric with 3 g powder of root of spreading hog weed and take two times daily to cure asthma.
Children's disease- Take 100 g spreading hog weed leaves, 200 g of sugar candy powder, 12 g of long pepper powder and cook the mixture for half an hour. Keep in a bottle after cooling. Give 4-10 drops daily to the children, it will cure their cough, lungs' disease, asthma, heart disease, salivary problem etc many diseases.
Vomiting- 2-5 g powder of spreading hog weed root helpful in vomiting. Never try to take much quantity.
Appetite- Take 2-3 g powder of spreading hog weed root with sugar candy powder to increase appetite.
Indigestion- Take 1 teaspoonful of powder of spreading hog weed root two times daily for proper digestion of food.
Strangury- Take 5-10 leaves of spreading hog weeds, 2-3 black peppers, make a paste of it, stir with water, filter it, give to the patient. Drinking of 5-10 ml of juice of spreading hog weed with milk, helps to cure strangury.
Increasing vital power- Grind leaves of spreading hog weed, mix milk with it and take daily two times a day to increase vital power.
Leucorrhoea- 3 g of juice of spreading hog weed leaves with bhringraj juice.
Jaundice- Take 10-20 g of juice of all parts of spreading hog weed (root, stem, flower, fruit, leaves) with 2-4 g of red gram, mix with water and take once daily in empty stomach.
Leprosy- Take spreading hog weed with betel nut twice daily.
Snake venom- It is the antidote of all types of snake venom.
Scorpion biting- Take leaves of spreading hog weed and branches of prickly chaff, grind it and massage the paste on the affected area of skin.
There is another most important medicinal use of spreading hog weed that it cures the monthly disorder seen in women. It should take the mixture of weed juice with black peeper and sugar candy in empty stomach.
